A Landscape Full of Water Lilies Stops the Painter in His Tracks

Plein Air Painting at Sangni Lotus Park, Goseong-gun 

I was worried I wouldn't be able to paint due to the extreme heat like my last visit, but a strong breeze cooled down the stifling air, and the lotus scenery was just right for painting. It was truly wonderful.

My legs ached from standing and working for two and a half hours, but buying delicious plums grown at a nearby farm and eating them while working gave me a huge boost of energy.

The lotus flowers cooling the midday heat, the gentle breeze, the cozy pavilion, and the refreshing greenery—from 1:50 PM to 4:20 PM, I became completely immersed in the ecstasy of painting, sharing a precious moment of becoming one with nature.

I highly recommend the juicy, sweet, small-seeded plums from the local farm in Sangri Village. . .

Economic hardship makes life difficult, but plein air painting, where I become one with nature, lets this weary self breathe once again. . .


Artist's Reflection on MonetHow wonderful it would be if I had the financial freedom to plant a pond full of water lilies and paint them, just like Claude Monet!

My Favorite: Myeongsa Beach August 26, 2025 (Tue) — Plein-air painting in the scorching heat With shallow waters, fine sand, gentle waves, and a decent view—above all, the shade and beauty of a large, majestic pine tree stretching its thick branches out toward the sea create an atmosphere and style that are truly beyond description. There is a wooden deck in the middle where you can get a great view of the entire landscape, which is wonderful. The large pine tree wooden platform is truly a stroke of genius. It is a place with its own unique charm... The scenery alone is absolute art. Someday, I want to stand right here fully equipped and paint the sunset landscape.
