Tongyeong Scenery Like a Masterpiece

Truly, Tongyeong is the land of the sea!

The harmonious blend of trees, the sea, distant islands, and the sky with clouds looks just like a classic masterpiece painting.

Because the view is so great, artificial structures have been built on the steep roadside slopes, creating awkward parking spots right on the curves. While it’s nice to be able to comfortably enjoy this scenery thanks to it, on the other hand, it is bittersweet to see familiar and natural landscapes rapidly disappearing.

Watching the coastline and scenery get covered in concrete and artificial structures feels regrettable, knowing that once natural landscapes are destroyed, they can never be restored, and even an eternal sense of comfort slips away.

Be that as it may, it has already been several years since I started making time to do plein air painting here.

Once it gets a bit cooler, I should give it another try.

To be honest, because it's a parking area, it's hard to set up a parasol, making work quite challenging and discouraging.

Wearing just a cap without a parasol and a sun-shield mask, trying to endure the stinging, nearly 30-degree sunlight for over three hours is just too much. ... ... ......

Moreover, the best spots with decent compositions are already taken over by pensions, cafes, resorts, and various other structures...

Finding natural beauty and landscapes is becoming harder and harder...

In the past, I liked scenery where artificial structures harmonized with nature...

But as the years go by, I find myself seeking out pure natural landscapes.

Finding a place that fits all these conditions isn't easy, though...

Places that were so nice just a few years ago have suddenly turned into concrete structures...

Was that why Monet created a pond and filled his canvas with water lilies, too...

I always envy Monet's wealth, endless effort, and talent that allowed him to do that.

When will I ever be able to paint impressionistic masterpieces with rich, vibrant colors...

I need to get more fine round brushes and high-quality white paint ready.

The road ahead is long, and financial hardships block the way... My body grows weary with passing time..

I simply find myself filled with a new sense of respect for the masters who came before us.

Someday, I must make a day happen where I can sip a cup of tea and paint a picture in peace.
